A different Version

B.G.Walker was killed by an M-16 "Bouncing Betty" mine triggered by one of his men who was NOT the platoon sergeant. The point man triggered the mine, was blown into the barbed wire around the mine field, and survived. He missed a trip-wire and paid for that mistake. The South Vietnamese opened fire only after his machine-gunner, on Walker's previously given orders, fired a burst over their heads "to keep them down." As expected, the SVN missed. At that time, an Australian platoon had only one radio. With it not responding, I was ordered to investigate that night. I know what happened because I found them in that mine field, and had another Australian blow half his foot off with an M-14 mine right behind me. I certainly hope the platoon sergeant's family know the truth. Stephen Rohaty, 1st Lt., MAT 64
