I received this little piece of history after a phone call from Lachlan, after reading the letter scroll down the page for a link to the actual music....Lachlan has, as stated in his letter given permission for it to be used.

Dear Ern.
As I discussed with you, please find enclosed a compact disc which contains a recording of the main "soldier" theme taken from a larger work titled Echoes of Conflict. The except was re-scored for military band and this recording is a recorded rehearsal by the Royal Military College musicians as preparation for the wreath laying ceremony at the original Vietnam Veterans Memorial in October 1992.
This music was played during the ceremony in 1992, and I am quite keen to again have this music available for other Vietnam Veterans. The reaction from several other returned servicemen from Vietnam has been positive, with many feeling that the music accurately captures the overall situation that existed during that time. As a result it also has been used on a small number of official engagements in Victoria over recent years. I would like to think that the music excerpt has a place from time to time during Vietnam Veteran related events.
As I also mentioned to you the excerpt is the main theme from a large orchestral work which has never been performed. The complete score is programmatic in nature and depicts young soldiers finding themselves in a situation of
conflict both at home and abroad on campaign. It has been set in a number of sections and calls for full symphony orchestra along with recorded voice and electronically generated sounds on tape, I composed the score several years after returning home whilst undertaking post-graduate studies at the conservatorium at Melbourne University. Initially the music was written purely as a personal project with no intention of public performance, however as time has moved on I now feel that I would like to have the music available to interested parties, albeit the reduced main theme if not one day the full orchestral version
I hope that you find the short musical theme of interest, both personally and as a possible contribution towards your most informative web site, I look forward to your comments,
Regards

Lachlan
