WHAT CAN BE DONE.
Eradicate all feral species :
Increase poisoning, shooting and trapping of the species.
Invent a biological control.
Increase the controls on domestic cats.
Build fox and cat proof fences around the park.
Survey all mounds in the park :
Utilise helicopters and satellite technology to find active mounds.
Use volunteers to study topography, vegetation and species.
Set up long term hides for bird watchers.
Community centre for volunteers and locals to share data.
Breeding programs:
Establish breeding programs to increase numbers in the wild.
Establish small zoos in the parks which have active mounds.
Release chicks regularly into the bush.
Attach tracking devices to chicks to ascertain progress.
Speed reductions:
Limit the speed of transport along the roads where mallee fowl live.
Extensive surveillance by traffic police.
