Oversee mechanical operations of Route 13 North, an Asian Development Bank Funded highway, from Vientiane to Vanvieng, which will eventually go on to China and Vietnam.
Guide and assist the Lao workshop team in maintenance and repairs to the projects road building machinery, giving training where necessary.
Check the spare parts stock and order the necessary low stock items.
Work with the projects head office in Vientiane to locate the causes of orders not arriving on time.
Search the local markets and often travel in to Thailand to procure out of stock urgently required parts.
Monitor the condition of the equipment in the field.
Correct any bad operating practices or inefficient servicing, which could lead to machine failure.
Teach the workshop staff how to correctly service Diesel injectors, how to diagnose machine problems, how to use the manufacturers trouble shooting charts, how to rebuild the tip truck bodies and cabins.

Responsible for training and working with Lao mechanics to inspect, service and repair irrigation pumps at seven sites on the Vientiane plans rice irrigation area.

Produce a complete mechanical assessment of the immediate condition and forecast the future efficient life left in the Route 13 North road making equipment for the Asian Development Bank, and United Nations Development Projects.
On completion of the assessment I was then to predict and order the parts requirements for the next three years of the project.
After completing the above two assignments, I assisted in workshop operations and tracking of overdue parts orders.

To set up a new centre pivot irrigation farm in the desert in the north western corner of Saudi, and plant thirty 170 acre pivots of barley.
Train staff to operate new 500hp 4 W.D. John Deere tractors, cultivators and seeding equipment.
Teach staff how to calibrate the seed and fertiliser drills, operate the centre pivot irrigators, engines and pumps, operate and calibrate the fertiliser injection systems on each pivot.

Develop an operation and maintenance program which would minimise pump failures amongst the 86 x 800 metre deep multi stage turbine pumps watering the 86 x 170 acre centre pivots.
The pumps were powered by 720 h.p. Mitsubishi and Caterpillar 640 h.p. V/12 Diesel engines.
Develop and carry out a repair program to salvage the very large stockpile of damaged and worn engines, gear heads, pumps, column pipes, line shafts and line shaft tubes.
Develop a new system to reclaim worn out and damaged pump bowels and turbines.
Concurrent with this work I purchased a 35 ton Tadano crane and trained a new Indian crew to install new pumps and pull damaged ones.

Supervise and assist the 20 mechanics in the repairs and maintenance of the projects fleet of tractors, trucks, earth moving equipment, agricultural machinery, and light vehicles.
Take charge of harvest operations and teach the mechanics how to adjust the harvesters (combines) to give a good quality grain sample.
Compile and maintain the local and overseas purchase orders for the project.
