The R.R.C.Y.C. was formed in 1987 with 6 local founding members as with all clubs this membership has fluctuated from between 6 and 18 members. The Club sails predominately two classes, these being the International "A" Class and the Marblehead Class but have hosted also 1mtr and 10 Rater events on their home water. The most significant event hosted by the club was the 10th World Championships for 10 Raters in 1993. January 1998 the Club will be hosting the National Championships, other events of note are the State Titles for "A" Class Yachts which will be sailed on Lake Bonney Barmera April or May 1997 (Dates to be confirmed).
The Club usually sails once every three weeks but due to the lack of members at present we are only sailing once a month, but this will be increased with a larger membership.
The club in itself has been very successful over this period by having won the America's Cup equivalent in R/C yachting 3 times and contested this event a further 5 times. Also Club members have won 6 State Titles and 3 National Titles. So as can be seen the level of competition in the club is of a very high standard
R/C yachts range in price from around $500 S/Hand up to about $8,000 for a State of the art 10 Rater or Marblehead, but at club and State level a $500 yacht under a good skippers control will be still be very hard to beat. The "A" Class is arguably the cheapest class with yachts of under the $800 mark winning the last 5 National Titles. The one major advantage R/C Yachting may compare in expense in the initial outlay but have very little ongoing expenses.
